Luminescence 2021
The Department of Biochemistry enthusiastically celebrated the 15th edition of its departmental fest ‘Luminescence’ on 20th March 2021. This is the first time that Luminescence ventured past the national boundaries as we had international participants from countries like U.S.A, U.A.E. and Spain. Also, it was the first ever Luminescence that was conducted online. Our theme this year was ‘Voyage to the Rising Dawn’ which essentially aimed to encourage all and to always have faith in oneself, no matter how impossible the hurdles of life might seem. This year we had a grand total of 324 participants from 45 colleges. We had participants from different universities and colleges, not only from Mumbai but from across India like the Ahmednagar college, Lucknow University from Uttar Pradesh, Pratap Chandra Homeopathy College from West Bengal, RC Patel Institute of Technology from Shirpur, Rajashri Sahu College of Engineering from Pune, Rajdhani College from Delhi, Karad Dental College from Karad, Government College of Pharmacy from Ratnagari and the Jeppiar Engineering College from Chennai, Tamil Nadu to name a few. The International Universities that we had participation from this year at Luminescence 2021 were University of California, USA, University of Barcelona, Spain and Middlesex University, UAE.
The fest housed six events this year which were as follows:
The first event was Quizeption. This was a general science-based quiz event with two rounds. We had a striking total of 133 participants in this event. The winners for this event were:

Maskscape was a mask painting event that gave the creative participants an opportunity to paint the masks that have, so diligently, been our shields everyday as we battle a pandemic. We had 19 participants for this event. The winners for this event were:

‘Cruise past the Blues’ was an open-mic event showcasing pieces of acting, dancing, singing and poetry that were rich with talent. Even on a virtual level, we revered 51 participants for this event. The rank holders for this event were:

Survival of the fittest was possibly the event which was most looked up to. It was a virtual escape room that stimulated colossal inquisitive skills as it pushed the participants to pay attention to all the details. We had 82, extremely thrilled, participants for this event. Once upon a time was yet another unique event that impelled quick thinking and a stellar imagination. It was a pass-the-story event where the participants joined in teams of three and a starting line was allotted to each team for them to finish a well comprehended story. We had 21 participants for this event. The winning teams for this event were:

Elysian was a digital poster making event for individuals who can vividly expresses their ideas, all in one poster. This year however they had to do so digitaly, and we had participation from 17 very creative individuals. The awardees for this event were:

Despite of all the physical restraints, Luminescence still persevered in the most graceful way possible. This would indeed be a remarkable year for the fest as not only was it virtual but also international proving yet again that Luminescence is exactly as its name suggests: a fest that harbors light and warmth for all.
